WBC Cuban national team includes ‘US exiles’ for the first time
The Cuban national team for the 2023 World Baseball Classic (WBC) included 6 exiles from the United States in their team entry.
In the list of 30 players announced on the 26th, 7 players in the Japanese professional baseball were included in the national team. There are 14 pitchers and 16 fielders.
Active big leaguer infielder Yoann Moncada and outfielder Lewis Robert (Chicago White Sox) were also named. In particular, Louis Robert is the representative hitter of the Cuban national team, who played an active role last season with a batting average of 0.284, 12 homers, and 56 RBIs. This is the first time that a U.S. exile player has participated in an international competition wearing a Cuban uniform as a ‘exile player’ who escaped Cuba in November 2016. 메이저놀이터
Also, right-hander Rydel Martinez (Chunichi), who is active in Japan, was the No. 1 player in saves last season.
Cuba competes with the Netherlands, Italy, Panama and Taiwan in Group A of the first round of the WBC finals. There is a possibility that Korea and Cuba will meet in the quarterfinals.
