The golf emperor returns… ‘Host’ Woods participates in the Genesis Invitational
Tiger Woods (USA) will participate in the Genesis Invitational (total prize money of 20 million dollars) next week.
On the 11th (Korean time), Woods tagged the Genesis Invitational on social media, saying, “I’m ready to compete in a real PGA Tour next week.”
He has been playing on the PGA Tour stage for the first time in a while. Excluding major tournaments, it has been about two years and three months since the 2020 Jojo Championship to participate in a PGA Tour event. After The Open Championship in July of last year, he went to the PNC Championship, a 36-hole event competition, with his son Charlie in December.
During the Hero World Challenge먹튀검증 in December of last year, Woods hinted at participating in the PGA Tour, saying, “My goal is to play only major tournaments and play one or two more. Physically, that’s all I can do.”
The Genesis Invitational is a competition run by the Woods Foundation. He has always appeared in competitions as a host. Although he was unable to participate in the competition due to a traffic accident, he appeared in the competition and delivered the trophy to the winner.
This tournament has a prize money of 20 million dollars, an increase of 8 million dollars from this year, and is one of the 13 big tournaments designated by the PGA Tour. To receive the Player Impact Program (PIP) bonus that Woods has received for two years in a row, he must perform well in special events such as the Genesis Invitational. As Woods participates, attention is focused on whether he will be able to earn a PIP bonus for three consecutive years.
US Golf Digest said, “As he returns to the PGA Tour, not a major tournament, his challenge to break the PGA Tour record (82 wins), which is tied with Sam Snead (USA), will continue. However, he will continue at the Riviera Country Club. “I have competed 11 times, but I have never won.”
At the Genesis Invitational, 6 Korean players will participate. In addition to Lim Seong-jae (25), Kim Joo-hyung (21), Kim Si-woo (28), and Lee Gyeong-hoon (32), Kim Seong-hyeon (25) and Kim Young-soo (34) are on the list of contestants. It is also noteworthy that Korean players compete against Woods for shots.
