“It was a defense that changed the whole game.”

Ryu started the 2023 Major League Baseball game against the Boston Red Sox at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on June 18 (EDT) and went 4⅔ innings without allowing an earned run on six hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

Ryu got out of the first inning unscathed. He started the game with a flying catch by right fielder Cavan Biggio on a line drive by Sedan Rafaela, struck out “Korean-American” big leaguer Rob Refsnyder, and got Justin Turner to fly out to left field.

But in the second inning, Ryu was in trouble. Leadoff hitter Rafael Devers singled and Adam Duvall followed with an infield single to put runners on second and third. Pablo Reyes followed with a grounder to the shortstop. Devers sprinted home, and shortstop Bo Bissett made a quick throw home, resulting in a tag. It was Hosmer who kept Ryu out of trouble, striking out Trevor Story and Bobby Dalbec with runners on first and third.

After the game, Ryu praised Bissett’s defense. “I thought the defense was deep, so I thought I had to minimize the damage with one run,” he said, according to Canadian outlet Sportsnet. “I didn’t really see where the runner was. I think he got a late start. Getting that out changed the whole tone of the game.”

After Bissett’s save, Toronto wasted no time getting on the board. With one out in the bottom of the second, Biggio singled and Matt Chapman doubled to put runners on second and third. Kevin Kiermaier followed with a sacrifice fly to center field to take the lead.

Ryu ran into trouble in the third inning. Liz Maguire singled and Rafaela doubled to put runners on second and third once again. She retired Lefsnider and Turner to get out of the jam, but walked Devers to load the bases. But he got Duvall to fly out to right field.

In the fourth, a fielding error shook things up. After getting Pablo Reyes to fly out to first, Story reached on an error by Chapman at third. Dalbec followed with a single to put runners on first and third. But McGwire induced a grounder to shortstop and a double play to end the inning with two outs.

Ryu started the fifth inning by getting Rafaela to ground out to the pitcher. After allowing an infield single to Lefsnider, she recorded her second strikeout of the game against Turner. But after a full-count battle with Devers, he gave up a walk and was replaced by Garcia to end the game. Garcia struck out Duvall to end the game.

Toronto got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on a Dolton Bashaw single. The Red Sox answered with an RBI single from Reyes in the top of the seventh and tied the game in the top of the ninth with a run-scoring single from Devers.

But in the bottom of the ninth, Chapman came through. One out later, Biggio led off with a single. Chapman then lined a sinker off Garrett Whitlock’s abdomen to center field, allowing Biggio to score and end the game.

Chapman returned from a sprained middle finger in his right hand on April 15 against the Texas Rangers. He was silent for three consecutive games, but had two hits in the game and drove in the winning run with a walk-off single.

“Before the game, he said, ‘I need to play better,'” manager John Schneider said.

Ryu made his return on Aug. 2 against the Baltimore Orioles after undergoing Tommy John surgery last June. His velocity was down, but he was still able to hit hitters with his main weapon, his fastball. He used his changeup and slow curveball to good effect to cook hitters.

In five games in August, Ryu went 3-1 with a 2.25 ERA in 24 innings, 11 runs (six earned), five walks, and 20 strikeouts. He didn’t get much help from a defense that made frequent errors, but he held them to minimal runs and picked up three wins.먹튀검증

However, September hasn’t been as fortunate. On Sept. 2, he left the mound with the win after allowing two runs (two earned) in five innings against the Colorado Rockies in the pitcher’s graveyard, but the bullpen gave up the game-winning run. Toronto rallied to win the game, but Ryu’s victory was short-lived.

Ryu then pitched five innings of two-run ball against the Oakland Athletics on July 7 and six innings of three-run ball against the Texas Rangers on July 13. The Texas game was his first time going six innings. However, in both games, he was unable to get any offensive support and took the loss. He then pitched 4⅔ innings against Boston. He hasn’t added a win in four straight games.

Ryu will look to get his fourth win of the season when he starts a three-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays on April 22-24.
